Amersham based “Justplay Ltd”, provides recorded sound effect services to the television and film industry across the UK. Sound effects for productions from Comedy to Drama series are recorded in studio and include effects such as simple footsteps right through to elaborate works such as fight scenes, explosions and car crashes. The nature and planned growth of the business means that any accounting relationship has to be flexible enough to cope with abnormal working hours and able to provide innovative business planning solutions. This is just one of the reasons that Justplay chose MD Consulting as their accountancy providers.

Phill Barrett is a director at Justplay, he explains how the relationship with MD Consulting began and subsequently, improved their business. “We decided some time ago to use Quickbooks as our internal accounting system, however found out in a very short space of time that our existing accountancy firm didn’t understand the system. The relationship with that firm wasn’t particularly pro-active and we decided to look for a new firm using the Quickbooks accountant’s directory. MD Consulting were local and obviously understood the computer system we had in place. We therefore decided to meet them.”

At the outset Phill Barrett was impressed with the team at MD Consulting. “They immediately provided a pro-active service which really impressed us all. The pro-active approach taken by MD Consulting has resulted in Justplay being able to take advantage of the new self administered pension schemes (SASS) in order to fund their studio expansion plans in Amersham. Says Phill “we wanted to be able to move away from leased property in Perivale and into a studio owned by the SASS in Amersham. Using a mixture of the pension fund converted to a SASS along with capital reserves and savings we have been able to achieve this. The team at MD Consulting helped us to plan for this and were instrumental in providing the accounting know-how to set up the scheme. This involves both accounting and audit skills as well as quite complex tax knowledge and we were delighted with the way in which MD Consulting provided expertise at every level.”
